ABOUT DC SCHOOL REFORM NOW
DC School Reform Now (DCSRN) is educating, organizing and advocating to build support for public education strategies that prepare kids to become college and career ready.
DCSRN was founded in 2008 to support new education reforms in the changing climate of public education in the District. DCSRN focuses on seizing the opportunity to collaborate with DC community at large to ensure the highest quality of public education for all students in DC.
DCSRN's current leading initiative, the High Quality Schools Campaign (HQSC), aims to inform parents about the characteristics of a high quality school, principal and teacher through parent-friendly materials, workshops, school tours, out-of-boundary (OOB) and charter public school application support, school enrollment support and parent advocacy training.
DCSRN is seeking Parent Facilitators to support HQSC.
PARENT FACILITATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Parent Facilitator is specifically responsible for:
- Implementing HQSC in mostly Wards 7 and 8, aimed at increasing the number of people who understand the importance of a quality education;
- Executing DCSRN's outreach strategies by utilizing the Parent Facilitator's network of parents and collecting contact information for the DCSRN membership database;
- Working with the HQSC Manager to represent the organization at appropriate community meetings;
- Connecting DCSRN with other Ward 7 and 8 organizations;
- Regularly meeting with Ward 7 and 8 parents to inform them about school quality;
- Encouraging parents to apply and enroll in high quality schools through school fairs, application workshops, etc.;
- Enabling parents to understand the need for high quality schools, principals and teachers in Washington, DC, and to become advocates for their children;
- Encouraging and facilitating opportunities for parents to be spokespersons for high quality education;
- Serving as a guide for parents on different school tours and Virtual School Tours throughout the city;
- Informing parents of and motivating them to attend education events and meetings; and
- Becoming an expert in DCSRN's HQSC parent curriculum to effectively inform parents about high quality schools.
DESIRED QUALITIES
The ideal candidate for this position possesses the following qualities:
- A self-starter;
- Well organized;
- Data driven;
- High energy;
- Excellent people and professional skills;
- Has an existing network of DC parents in Wards 7 and 8;
- An excellent ability to multitask;
- Able to work evenings and weekends;
- Excellent project manager;
- Ability to speak Spanish is not necessary, but highly desired; and
- Understanding of OOB and charter public school application processes is highly desired.
