[YEP-DC] Volunteer Opportunities in Adult Education - Math, Reading/Writing, Science, Social Studies

At the YWCA, we have an Adult Education and Workforce Development program that focuses on helping students obtain their GEDs and fulfill their employment, educational, and life goals beyond their certificates.  Right now, we need some dependable, creative folks to:
  • Co-teach an evening GED class in Math, Science, or Reading/Writing during our winter term, which runs from January 14 through March 28 2013.  It's a once-a-week commitment from 6:30-8:00. You'd receive training on classroom management, lesson planning, and subject-specific teaching techniques before entering the classroom. For more information, access this link: http://www.idealist.org/view/volop/xSnzxK8B5HSP/
  • Tutor a GED student one-on-one in one of the five GED subjects: math, reading, writing, science, or social studies.  Math and Reading/Writing are the areas of greatest need right now, and we particularly need daytime tutors.  You'd meet with your student once a week for an hour at whatever time and public location works best for you & your student. • Lead a small basic math study group once or twice a week at the YWCA's main location.  The study group would take place in the late afternoon, from between the hours of 3:30 and 6:00 PM.  For more information, access this link: http://www.idealist.org/view/volop/kdt9fKg7NpbD/
