[dcab-l] Bluegrass Music Workshop - Dec. 8 at 3:00 p.m. - NOVA Music Center in Manassas (address below)

A very basic Bluegrass Music Workshop will be offered on Saturday, December 8 at three o'clock in Manassas for adults and kids.  This workshop is the second in a series (the first being a banjo workshop last month) and will be sponsored by NOVA Music Center and The Bull Run Bluegrass Music Association ("Bull Run") as a community service. The instructors will be volunteers and the space made available by NOVA Music Center.

Bring your instruments. This is not a jam session but it will involve "hands on" opportunities to play music.  All Bluegrass instruments are welcome. (Please, no spoons, kazoos, washboards, jaw harps, etc.) There will not be individual instrument instruction except as may be incidental to a specific technique in a specific instance.  The instructors are not multi-instrumentalists.

Young people are especially welcome as one goal is to build a cadre of young pickers.  The only charge is to cover materials: $5 for kids and $10 for adults.

Areas covered: The nature of Bluegrass Music, a little history, basic construction of the Bluegrass form, the role of the various instruments, the presentation of Bluegrass tunes by a group, jamming principles, playing Bluegrass tunes ("hands on") with others, information resources.

This workshop will lead to additional opportunities to play Bluegrass music as NOVA and Bull Run schedule workshops and jamming events next year.
