Young Friends of DC Scholars is a group of young professionals interested in raising local awareness about Scholar Academies and DC Scholars, organizations that are working to close the achievement gap for low-income students by creating high-performing schools.

About Scholar Academies:
Scholar Academies is a nonprofit school management organization that exists to close the achievement gap and contribute to national efforts to eradicate educational inequity. Operating in Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Trenton, NJ, Scholar Academies manages a network of high-performing schools that provide traditionally underserved, urban students with a meaningful, high-quality education. It is one of the few charter management organizations committed to taking on "turnaround" opportunities that arise within underperforming district or charter schools, in addition to starting new schools.

About DC Scholars:
DC Scholars is the Washington, DC regional cluster of Scholar Academies and is currently made up of DC Scholars Stanton Elementary School and DC Scholars Public Charter School. In 2010, Scholar Academies was selected to operate Stanton Elementary, one of the District's lowest-performing elementary schools, through a partnership contract with DC Public Schools. Guided by the belief that every student can succeed when held to the highest expectations, DC Scholars Stanton has since implemented a highly-focused, progressive educational approach designed specifically to close the achievement gap for low-income students who come to school severely underprepared.

In 2012, the brand new DC Scholars Public Charter School opened its doors to approximately 200 students in grades preschool through three. Like DC Scholars Stanton, DC Scholars PCS is committed to preparing all students to succeed academically in high school and college.
