Australian Education International Policy Internship - Spring 2013
Australian Education International (AEI) is the international arm of the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) and has an office at the Embassy of Australia, Washington, DC. We work with American and Canadian education institutions, policy-makers and governments to strengthen the bilateral relationship.
The AEI North America office focuses on the following areas of work:
• Government-to-government dialogue: Australia and North America share many similar higher education and science policy challenges. AEI North America facilitates education and science policy dialogue between the Government of Australia and the Governments of the United States and Canada as a means to share best practices and lessons learnt for future policy development.
• Education policy research and analysis: AEI North America monitors and analyses education policy and regulatory developments in Canada and the United States across higher education, and reports its findings to the Australian Government and higher education sector.
• Promoting the quality of Australian higher education: AEI North America promotes Australia as a source of high quality education, both with regards to its education system and its education reform policies in vocational and higher education.

Policy internships typically run for four months from August to November and from January to April.
AEI North America is currently seeking a policy intern to begin in January through April 2013 to work on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week). We will provide the intern with a stipend of $1000 per month.
Summary of Duties
The intern will assist with researching, monitoring, and reporting on US and Canadian higher education and science policy, attend and report on higher education and science events, and assist the policy manager with supplemental duties as requested.
Desired Skills
The successful candidate will:
• Have completed at least two years of college
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Have strong research and analytical skills
• Have the ability to work independently and in a team
• Have a personal interest in the fields of education policy and/or international relations.
