I'm not 100% certain, but I do believe you can hear a couple of the classic "Osboorne Brothers with Red Allen" trio numbers on one of the Osborne Brothers trilogy CDs that were released some ten years ago. If your'e unfamiliar with this trilogy, it is their life story:
1) "From Hyden to Dayton"
2) "From Dayton to Wheeling" and
3) "From Wheeling to Nashville."
And these are must-haves for any passionate BG collector.
Of course, you well-know my great love for Red Allen. The 5 greatest voices in early BG-- Monroe, Martin, Carter Stanley and Red Allen !
FYI-- I recently digitalized a taped show of "Red Allen, Frank Wakefield and The Kentuckians" performing live at Old Dominion Park on July 29, 1962. I sent a copy of that CD on July 29, 2012-- fifty years to the day-- to Frank, who was recovering in the hospital from serious medical problems. Frank wrote me back to thank me and said that he enjoyed hearing it very much. That particular edition of the band had Red (guitar), Frank (mandolin), Ralph "Robbie" Robinson (banjo), Billy Baker (fiddle) and Tom Morgan (string bass). What a great show it was too. Frank of course loved Red's voice too and their harmonies with Frank singing baritone on most of their many recordings is some of the best BG ever recorded.
This said, Frank has told me many times that his all-time favorite singer was Jimmy Martin, with whom Frank toured (along with JD Crowe) in 1958.
Easy Day,
JB
