Recess blogger Wenna Price, who writes about international education, highlights a British organization this month that connects military veterans with at-risk students, as young as in middle school. Called SkillForce, the program gets veterans and students together for activity-based learning, often outside of school walls, that teaches kids soft skills like dedication and perseverance. It's paid off: While 16 percent of teens drop out of high school, on average, less than 1 percent of those students who work with SkillForce instructors do.
