The YWCA National Capital Area is looking for competent, organized, and dedicated volunteers to help adult learners find and maintain employment! Our students range in age from 18 to 60+, and all of them are looking to increase their opportunities in the workforce.
To volunteer, you must have daytime availability (between the hours of 9AM and 5PM), although your exact hours and amount of time needed per week is flexible.
Possible duties include:
- Teaching job readiness and life skills courses as needed, using a provided curriculum
- Supporting students with creating/updating their resumes and cover letters
- Assisting clients in learning all aspects of the workplace and the skills necessary to meet the standards of industry
- Providing basic administrative support to the Workforce Development Coordinator (i.e., photocopying classroom materials, updating and maintaining filing system, conducting follow-up calls to students, employer partners, etc.)
Any volunteer applicant needs to be/have:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to be patient and sensitive to individuals needs
- Ability to motivate individuals with barriers to employment
- Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel
- Experience working with large groups at various skills level preferred
