[YEP-DC] Job Posting: Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships for Thurgood Marshall Academy

Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships Search Summary

Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School, a college-preparatory, law-themed high school in Southeast Washington, DC, seeks a Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships to lead its Development team. Thurgood Marshall Academy is nationally recognized as a top-performing charter high school; the school has been highlighted as a model of excellence by the Department of Education "Doing What Works" series, recognized as a school of excellence by Harvard's Achievement Gap Institute (AGI), featured on the CBS evening news, and listed as a top high school by US World and News Report. Locally, Thurgood Marshall Academy is one of only three high schools designated as Tier 1 by the DC Public Charter School Board.

Thurgood Marshall Academy was founded in 2001 by law students and professors from the DC Street Law clinical program at Georgetown University Law Center. When the school welcomed its first students in August 2001, it was the first charter high school east of the Anacostia River. Today, Thurgood Marshall Academy serves 400 students in grades 9-12; 100% of students are African-American and over 75% are quality for Free and Reduced Lunch. At the heart of the school's program is a steadfast determination to help students close often stark educational gaps and prepare themselves for college. Since its inception, 100% of Thurgood Marshall Academy's nine graduating classes have been accepted to college. Over 80% of alumni are either still enrolled in college or have graduated.

After over ten years of educating students in the city's most educationally neglected community, Thurgood Marshall Academy is the top performing, open-enrollment high schools in the District of Columbia and poised to move into its next phase of growth. The school is currently undergoing a strategic planning process to position the institution for the next decade of operations. One of the central long-term challenges for the school is to continue to balance the fiscal and programmatic demands of its $8.5 million operation. The Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships position offers a unique opportunity to assume leadership of a highly successful Development team integral to the school's success raising over $1.5 million dollars, annually.
