[dcab-l] Seldom Scene 40th Anniversary

Bluegrassers:

I hope you enjoyed the banjo original "Banjo Whip" from Ben Eldridge.

Here is another original on the "High Lonesome Sound" vinyl LP,

the title cut.

These days, I do this song a tad faster, but I'm almost never able

to get a harmony on it; the harmony range is a bit difficult.  In this cut,

Lou Reid comes through with an amazing harmony.

Recorded at Wally Cleaver's in Fredricksburg, Va., personnel:

Willie Oldes        Bass

Fred Travers      Dobro

Phil Rosenthal    Mandolin

Carl Nelson        Fiddle

Lou Reid            Harmony

As most bluegrass pickers, I'm always interested in the instruments

musicians play.  The album cover included this information, and here

are the "axes":

Carl Nelson         1984 Hand made John Janzegers

   Ben Eldridge       1934 Gibson RB-3

Willie Oldes        1977 Anton Schroetter (German)

   Ed Schaeffer       1976 Martin D-76

Phil Rosenthal    1924 Gibson F-5 (Lloyd Load)

                            1985 Martin HD-28

   Lou Reid             Tenor

   Fred Travers       Early-Mid 30' s Dobro

There is but one more cut celebrating the Scene Meisters 40th:

an instrumental called Rock Creek Ramble. After that, we'll begin a

cache of love songs, both live and recorded.

I hope you enjoy!

Ed
