Project Assistant

EducationCounsel LLC, in affiliation with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, based in Washington, D.C., is currently hiring for the position of Project Assistant.  

EducationCounsel is seeking candidates to work with the policy advisors and attorneys on our team for a 12+ month paid internship. This position offers a tremendous opportunity for exposure to education policy and will develop skills that will be valuable in graduate study, law school or in more advanced education policy work.

The ideal candidate is a graduate from an accredited 4 year college or university with a strong academic record and demonstrated success in  professional and  extracurricular pursuits. Candidates with Capitol Hill experience through internships or fellowships are strongly encouraged to apply.   The candidate should have strong research, writing, communication and organizational skills, and be analytical and detail oriented. Responsibilities will include: policy and legal research and basic analysis, attending Congressional hearings and providing summary analyses, proofreading and editing, assisting with meeting planning and execution including preparing agendas and managing meeting materials, and working on special projects as assigned.

Administrative Assistant

EducationCounsel LLC, in affiliation with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, based in Washington, D.C., is currently hiring for the position of Administrative Assistant.  Our Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing general office administrative support that includes:  managing daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly calendars and schedules for internal and external use; editing documents and preparing presentation materials using PowerPoint and other applications; providing back-up phone support; providing travel coordination; preparing expense reports; entering time into Firm's time management system (DTE); working with operations to maintain office supplies; working with office management to maintain marketing supplies; creating copies of documents and marketing materials as requested; maintaining contact lists for timekeepers; maintaining and processing correspondence, contracts and files; and managing client billing as needed.  Candidate will also, provide professional staff with support in research of various topics, organizations and key players in the field; assist in management of team's practice by overseeing new client relationships including management of engagement formalities; create and manage the EducationCounsel Weekly E-Update and distribution list; perform note-taking and attend meetings as requested; schedule, coordinate, plan and prepare for team retreats, conference calls, meetings and special events; and complete special projects as assigned.

Senior Policy Advisor

EducationCounsel LLC, in affiliation with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, based in Washington, D.C., is currently hiring for the position of Senior Policy Advisor.   

EducationCounsel works with education leaders and policymakers at all levels – associations, foundations, companies, states, districts, and universities – with the goals of enhancing the quality of the nation's education systems, closing achievement gaps, and expanding access to educational opportunities throughout the education pipeline from birth to college and career access and completion. EducationCounsel provides an integrated set of services that include strategy, advocacy, policy and law to help clients achieve their goals.   

For our senior policy advisor position we are seeking intelligent, hard-working and resourceful individuals who possess strong analytical, research, writing and editing skills as well as experience with project and client management. Applicants should also have a strong interest in education policy.  We are a results-oriented, mission driven team with ambitious goals around education reform.  

Minimum requirements include a Masters Degree (degrees in Public Policy, Education and or Law are preferred) and a minimum of eight years of relevant work experience.  Previous experience working in a position of leadership at an educational institution or at the federal, state, or local government levels is also required.  A background in policy issues relating to educator effectiveness, licensure, training, compensation, and retention is a plus.   Candidates with Capitol Hill and legislative experience are strongly encouraged to apply.    

Specifically, our Senior Policy Advisors will be responsible for:

  1. Representing the organization through extensive interaction with clients, partners, and other external parties.
  2. Managing projects, including leading project-based teams, supervising staff and managing the work of others.
  3. Managing client relationships.
  4. Leading and facilitating conference sessions and meetings.
  5. Leading and managing research and analysis.
  6. Drafting and editing memos, reports and presentations.
