Position Summary
The Curriculum Director is responsible for One World Youth Project's (OWYP) middle school learning experiences. The position requires an experienced education professional who is dedicated to OWYP's vision of a just world built through the actions of empowered, discerning and empathetic generations of global citizens.
Responsibilities
- Design high-quality lesson plans that foster learning experiences to engage youth in the complex discussion of global understanding
- Collaborate on the creation of training modules for university student facilitators of the OWYP curriculum and how to effectively facilitate it
- Push for continuous improvement and innovation in OWYP's curricula based on assessment feedback
- Collect best practices from curriculum creation and implementation and innovations in education for disseminating to staff
- Develop communication tools to be used to connect OWYP classrooms
- Collaborate to develop systems to facilitate curriculum implementation
- Contribute ideas and energy to the work of the whole team and to the workplace culture
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or international equivalent
- Classroom teaching experience
- Substantial international travel and/or work experience with a proven passion for global citizenship
- Deep understanding of the complex, interdisciplinary issues related to promoting global consciousness and mutual understanding among youth worldwide
- Interest in non-traditional teaching and learning frameworks
- Comfort with curriculum development and analysis
- Comfort with the ability to view education through an interdisciplinary, anthropological lens
- Track record of turning ideas into action
- Ability to research, synthesize and analyze large amounts of information
- Attention to detail while maintaining ability to see big picture
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and frequently changing work environment
- Ability to operate with a high level of personal responsibility, optimism and entrepreneurialism
- Sense of humor
Compensation and Benefits
The Curriculum Director position offers a salary of $40,000 annually and a generous benefits package including full medical and dental coverage, 14 days of scheduled or unscheduled leave as well as two weeks of paid leave for personal and professional development annually.
About One World Youth Project
One World Youth Project (OWYP) links schools around the world to build mutual respect and understanding among students and provide the global life skills needed for success in the interconnected 21st century. OWYP partners with universities to establish a service-learning program on their campus through which students facilitate a weekly, global life skills curriculum in local middle classrooms. Guided by their university mentors, the middle school students reflect on their learning experiences through an active link with a partner classroom abroad. OWYP is a social-profit venture with the vision of a just world built through the actions of empowered, discerning and empathetic generations of global citizens.
