[YEP-DC] Tutoring opportunities - Bethesda (Red Line) and/or McLean

PrepMatters is a tutoring organization comprised of the smartest, coolest and hippest tutors and educational counselors in the DC Metro area (seriously, just ask us ;). Our clients think so too - we were selected by the readers of Bethesda magazine as the 2012 Best of Bethesda: Test Prep. We are looking to add a few new tutors to our team - if you love teaching, love learning, and are excited about working with a fun team, this could be the place for you!

Don't believe us? Here's what our teammates say:

Ryan W. (PM tutor since 2007): "PrepMatters is the best work environment I've ever been in: there is a genuine atmosphere of mutual support among some of the smartest people I've ever met."

Robert R. (PM tutor, 5 years): "I love working at PrepMatters. My colleagues are wonderful, and helping students is tremendously satisfying."

Ned Johnson (owner and PM tutor since the beginning -- 1996): "If there is a cooler gig than working to help kids reach their goals, I don't know what it is."

Rod S. (PM tutor since 2006): "Great colleagues, fantastic atmosphere, and the opportunity to help kids every day!"

THE POSITION:
PrepMatters is looking for bright, dynamic people to join the staff. In addition to the SAT, we tutor for the whole alphabet of tests: SAT Subject Tests, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, GRE, GMAT, & LSAT exams.  We also work with many students seeking help for their academic courses and have high demand for tutors with science, math, history, and/or foreign language expertise.

Part-time tutors start at $30-$50 an hour depending on experience. All tutoring takes place in either our Bethesda or McLean offices or in certain area high schools. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with a friendly, vibrant staff and specialized clientele. Read more about our tutors here: PrepMatters tutors

OUR REQUIREMENTS:
  • All candidates must have a bachelor's degree, teaching experience, and must be able to teach all sections of the SAT. Candidates who do not wish to teach all three sections of the SAT will not be considered. A qualifying test is administered to all applicants, so please make sure you're ready!
  • While we welcome both part time and full time applicants, we do ask for a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week during our busy seasons. Our tutors work anywhere from 10 hours a week up to 60 hours a week. Weekends are always in high demand.
  • Candidates must have mastery of necessary content at the time of application. Our extensive training period is meant to familiarize new tutors with our particular pedagogical approach. This training period is not meant for review of a particular test's content.
  • We ask that tutors have an honest expectation that they will be able to work for at least two years with PrepMatters. There is a fairly steep learning curve for new tutors and given the time and energy both trainers and employees are expected to devote to training, at least a two-year period of employment is really necessary for the employment to be beneficial to both the tutor and to PrepMatters.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
  • A supportive, fun place to work (students come to our offices -- you get to know your fellow tutors!).
  • Competitive pay and potential for raises.
  • Flexible hours - our offices are open 7 days a week.
  • Paid training as well as opportunities for ongoing training and education.
APPLICATIONS:
If you are looking for a fun and rewarding work environment, please fill out an application at http://prepmatters.com/jobs/app. No phone calls, please. Due to the volume of applications, we regrettably cannot respond to every resume.
