Ø  In Memoriam: Honoring Tom Reilly. Tommy Reilly, banjoist, guitarist, vocalist, and a fixture in the bluegrass & Irish music communities, left way too young, close to a year ago... and so, Tom's brother-in-law, Joe Spause, began a nonprofit to honor Tommy's spirit! Tommy's family will host their first annual walk on June 16th at LaSalle College High School need your support. Main Greensboro, Maryland Friday night - Open Mic (seeking groups and individuals); Saturday 10:00 am - 11:00 p.m. Bands all day: Lots of jamming. Bald Mountain, Free Range Blue, Stoney Run String Band, Timmons Family, Chain Reaction, Kindred Spirits, Free Range, Woodyward Trio, and more. Sunday - Gospel beginning at 1:00 pm.   • 4/14/12: Little Roy Lewis & Lizzie Show. Presented by the Seven Mountains Bluegrass Association. Saturday, April 14 at 7:00 pm. The show will be at the Goodwill Fire Company, 2318 S. Queen Street in York, PA. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The kitchen will be operated by the Goodwill Volunteer fire fighters and Auxiliary members. This is a family show, smoke free and non-alcohol event. The cost is $13.00 for SMBA members and $16.00 for non-members. Children under 12 are free. Annual membership fee is $12.00 per family and may be paid at the show. ·        4/14/12: Stephen Bennett Guitar Workshop & House Concert in Centerville DE (near Chadds Ford, PA and Longwood Gardens) on Saturday April 14, 2012. In the afternoon Steve will conduct a small-group instructional (fingerstyle) workshop for guitar students of all levels, followed by a house concert that evening. He is a veteran of Steve Kaufman's Acoustic Music Kamp and prize winner at the Winfield National Championships in both flatpicking and fingerstyle guitar! The guitar workshop will run from 1-4, and the house concert will start at 8:00PM. The price for the workshop is $65, and $25 for the evening concert. A discounted price of $80 for both is also offered. Private lessons are available on the following day (Sunday; advance reservations required). ·        4/21/12: Wayne Taylor and Appaloosa will be performing 2 sets with Hilltown in Sergeantsville, NJ. This event will be at the intimate 125 seat WDVR Virginia Napurano Cultural Arts center. Wayne was the leader of the US Navy's Country Current bluegrass quartet for 18 years and is now retired and has his own band. Tickets are $20 and proceeds support WDVR. Call 609-397-5991 for tickets. ·       4/28/12: Flatpicked Guitar Workshop with Eric Thompson. April 28, 1-3 PM, in Oxford PA. West Coast guitar sensation Eric Thompson will share the secrets of his approach to flatpicked lead guitar, drawing on licks, breaks, and tunes from Riley Puckett, Maybelle Carter, the Delmore Brothers. Doc Watson and Don Reno, all of whom inspired his own playing. You'll learn about right and left hand technique, position shifts, and cross-picking patterns. Eric will also show you how you can embellish the melody and give you some new ideas about improvisation. While aimed for the intermediate to advanced player, beginners will learn a lot even if they feel they aren't keeping up. An audio recording device is encouraged, but no video please. ·       5/6/12: Wilmington Wintergrass, Inc. presents a 3 Hour Hands-On Guitar and Mandolin Improvisation Workshop for All Levels led by Tim May and Dan Miller (co-authors of the popular eight volume Flatpicking Essentials Guitar Course and the instructional DVD "An Approach to Improvisation"). May 6, 2012, 1:00 - 4:30 PM at the Crown Plaza Wilmington North, 630 Naamans Rd., Claymont, DE 19703. Cost: $50.00 per person. If you are already an accomplished improvisational player this workshop can help take your abilities to the next level. If you are new to improvisation, this workshop will give you confidence in taking that big step to becoming an improvisational player. Each student will be given several opportunities to play for, and get direct feedback from, the instructors. After the workshop there will be a jam open to the public ... a $3.00 donation is asked to help defray the cost of rental space. Seating is limited.
