AEM has deployed innovative technical solutions within numerous U.S. Department of Education grant programs that have enhanced the ability to effectively monitor, provide technical assistance, and evaluate the ongoing implementation of grant activities. Additionally, AEM has a growing cadre of technical assistance experts from across the P20W spectrum that actively engages with ED staff and practitioners in the field to improve the ongoing efforts towards advancement of teaching and learning.

 

Race to the Top—District CoP Program Manager Position Summary:

 

The Community of Practice (CoP) Program Manager will provide direct support to the CoP Lead and is responsible for keeping the work of the CoP moving and providing oversight to ensure the work is done in compliance with Race to the Top—District Technical Assistance norms. The CoP Program Manager is responsible for monitoring and updating CoP scopes of work and timelines; overseeing the development of and reviewing all CoP deliverables and ensuring their accuracy; tracking CoP milestones; taking high-level notes at CoP meetings; identifying action items and tracking progress; coordinating CoP technical assistance activities with the Senior Program Manager, CoP Lead, Project Director, Deputy Director, and Print, Products and Communication (PPC); and coordinating work with CoP experts. 

 

Core Activities of the CoP Program Manager may include:

·         Work with CoP Lead and experts to identify, develop, and communicate the key areas for technical assistance support.

·         Supporting the CoP Lead in developing overall CoP strategy documents and materials.

·         Leading discussions and providing updates in weekly meetings with the U.S. Department of Education and/or CoP and project teams.

·         Participating in the weekly program manager call and providing updates to the senior program manager on deliverables, timeline, upcoming activities, and information on content areas that flow across multiple CoPs.

·         Working with a wide-range of content experts on CoP activities.

·         Tracking progress of the work identified in the CoP arc of work and work plan; modifying the project scope as objectives, deliverables, and timelines change; and tracking and following up on action items.

·         Developing and/or reviewing project scopes to ensure that deliverables that require review are identified and placed on a schedule for review

·         Reviewing deliverables as identified in the work plan/scope and within the given timeline.

·         Taking notes during CoP calls and meetings, distributing them within three-five business days, and monitoring new action items that emerge from them.

·         Contributing to Race to the Top—District quality assurance processes and quality control management efforts.

·         Updating and managing the CoP site and working with the Senior Program Manager and Communities Manager if additional support is needed.

 

CoP Program Manager Requirements:

 

CoP Program Managers will possess a highly motivated and passionate desire to be engaged in the shaping of education reform through the development and provision of high quality technical assistance opportunities and supports. CoP Program Managers should be enthusiastic, customer-service oriented, and possess a commitment to quality.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, public policy, psychology, sociology, or related field, plus three or more years of previous management level experience.

·         Experience in a consulting environment.

·         Ability to manage and lead discrete tasks and contribute to overall project management.

·         Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment.

·         Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as a team member.

·         Well-developed written and verbal presentation skills.

·         Solid experience in developing written reports, one-pagers, briefs, and presentations.

·         Ability to interact effectively and professionally with clients, colleagues, and grantees.

·         Ability to think analytically, define and thoroughly document tasks, and conceptualize, plan, and complete major elements of project work.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

 

Preferred Skills/Experience:

·         Experience with federal government programs and providing technical assistance to grantees, especially in a consulting environment, is preferred.

·         Experience in education reform is highly desired.

·         Experience working across a wide variety of stakeholders and needs, especially with local educational agencies and school building personnel, is preferred.
