[YEP-DC] YEP-DC Teaching the Teachers Panel on 8/6 - New Panelist and Moderator Confirmed! (RSVP Inside)

Teaching the teachers: A YEP-DC panel discussion on how to reform and strengthen teacher preparation

Sponsored by the American Institutes for Research (AIR)

WHEN: Tuesday, August 6, 2013, 6:30 – 8:00pm

WHERE: American Institutes for Research, 1000 Thomas Jefferson St NW (in Georgetown, Foggy Bottom is nearest METRO station)

RSVP: http://bit.ly/187WUgE

DESCRIPTION: Teacher preparation – how new teachers are recruited, selected, trained and equipped for the classroom – has received a lot of attention lately. The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) released the first edition of its Teacher Prep Review, a major evaluation of colleges and universities that prepare K-12 teachers, in June. Then, more recently, a commission appointed by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) finalized a new set of standards for schools of education. Both of these developments have garnered attention and notoriety and brought the issue of teacher preparation into wider public debate.

Come continue the debate with YEP-DC and several policy experts. Hear directly from those who've worked on and studied this issue in great depth, and discuss solutions for how teacher preparation can be strengthened.

Light refreshments will be provided. See you on August 6!
