AASA has a great opportunity for an individual looking to enter into the field of public education advocacy. The ideal candidate should have a passion for public education and experience with education policy analysis and research. Job Purpose: Incumbent provides policy analysis in support of AASA's advocacy for public education.
Accountabilities:
- Analyzes data regarding public education and interprets meaning of data and information to help school administrators follow, understand, influence and use federal policy.
- Serves as principal writer for public policy web pages and supports continual updating of AASA website.
- Provides back up for Legislative Corps Weekly Report, Policy Insider, and The Leader's Edge online publications.
- Works on cooperative projects planning activities and supporting AASA goals and objectives.
- Represents AASA in working with the Department of Education and strategic partnerships.
- Serves on other AASA teams and performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Duties:
- Writes informative articles and papers to provide information through AASA publications to further the goals of AASA's advocacy for public education and to provide AASA members with information and analysis that can be used in each member's work at the local level.
- Writes and arranges public policy web pages and assists AASA website manager on design and continual updating of website.
- Provides in-depth analysis specifically designed for use by AASA members in advocating for public education.
- Plans and implements, with other AASA staff, meetings and forums to bring members and other affiliates together to discuss key issues in advocating for public education.
- Prepares articles, reports, presentations and materials to support AASA in its policy initiatives and for AASA subscription services as requested.
- Prepares analysis on the long-term implementation of major federal education policies, including ESEA and IDEA, in a format suitable for sharing with AASA leadership and membership.
- Represents AASA in strategic partnerships related to AASA focus, as assigned.
- Attends state affiliate and other educational organization meetings, as invited, to share AASA's perspective on public education issues.

Experience: Education policy research and analysis; presenting complex information in a concise way designed for leaders.
Skills: Ability to:
· work as a team member cooperating on projects and filling in where needed;
· analyze data and information and create meaning for school administrators;
· write most copy on the public policy web pages and layout information to be eye-catching, easy to follow and read;
· communicate effectively online and in both oral and written form, including ability to write at a professional level for AASA publications (as defined by AASA editors);
· prepare and deliver PowerPoint presentations before small and large audiences of school administrators and policymakers;
· quickly analyze and summarize data regarding education research and policy developments; and
· adeptly use standard computer software.
Education: Bachelor's Degree required.
