RE: [dcab-l] Re: DCBU's Beltway Bluegrass now at Solly's U Street Tavern...

Hooray for Matt and DCBU!  This is a great initiative to help create bluegrass venues.  In the past, it was always a band going to an establishment and trying to convince them that bluegrass would work.  It was very hit or miss.  Back in the 70s, there were bluegrass bars all around Baltimore, suburban MD, downtown DC, and northern VA which gave lots of bands the opportunities to work and fans a chance to see some live music.   It’s sad that they all faded away.

Bringing the collective energy of the DCBU to helping establish bluegrass venues is a very worthwhile endeavor.

One more thing- WE've got our sights on finding a spot in Virginia to do the same thing. There's a bunch, I know, but I think some criteria should be considered:

There should be a house sound system. Not having to drag the PA around is definitely a bonus.

The place should have a reasonable capacity. 75ish.

A good arrangement for a cover charge is desirable too. Not essential, but a nice option.

If anyone has thoughts in this regard, feel free to post or let me know off line.

Hey Everybody-

DCBU will be booking a monthly Beltway Bluegrass night at Solly's in DC on the 4th Thursday. Everybody knows that we lost two of the bluegrass mainstays for performing and listening over the last couple of years, so the DCBU has been trying to find spots to provide local (and hopefully member) bands a spot to play and make a decent buck while they are at it. Band membership is certainly encouraged, but not essential.

This is a work in progress, but now we have 2 venues that were working with.  Michelle and Jeremy have been booking BG in El Nopalito for a couple of months now, bringing some great bands- and friends- an opportunity to perform in the Silver Spring area.

DCBU and Solly's will do the same for the U Street neighborhood.

By & By starts things off at Solly's on Thursday, July 25 @8:30. There's a $5 cover charge.

I hope you can make it to any of the Beltway shows- heck, any live bluegrass show for that matter. Bands dont have it easy these days, and need your support at every opportunity. If you cant, please pass the news on to anyone you know who might.

The DCBU is working to make this happen, and hope that you will assist us with this by getting out and supporting live bluegrass whenever you can!
