The Reading Connection (TRC) is seeking participatants in the 2nd Arlington Kids Read Read-a-Thon. The goal of the Read-a-Thon to get all kids reading more, which is what TRC pursues through all of its programs. While this program is run in coordination with TRC's Arlington Kids Read campaign, it is open to all DC-area organizations who work with children.
During the Read-a-Thon, which runs from Monday, May 13 through Sunday, May 19, kids will track the amount of time they read each day in a reading log. Your organization will compete with other groups to have the highest average minutes read during the Read-a-Thon week.
The Read-a-Thon log book can be downloaded from this email and copied for use by each child in your program. During the week of May 20, organizations will be asked to send their students' results to The Reading Connection. All students who participate will receive a certificate and the winning organization will receive a complimentary ice cream party for their students.
To get the week started off right, TRC is holding a Community Reading Festival on May 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Campbell Elementary School at 737 S. Carlin Springs Dr., Arlington, VA 22204. There will be books read aloud, a visit from Clifford, crafts and treats for all. We hope that you will encourage your students come out for the fun.
