[YEP-DC] Make A Difference TODAY: Help Spread Literacy for DC Youth!

Dear Family & Friends,

This spring, I am happy to announce that I am participating in a Giving Circles Project with Capital Cause, a young philanthropist organization based in D.C. My team and I, "Team Spread the Light" are aiming to raise $2,000 to benefit literacy efforts at Potomac Lighthouse Public Charter School. I am a exciting about contributing to my community with other young philanthropists while meeting the needs of our youth.

At Potomac Lighthouse Public Charter School (PLPCS), nearly 90% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.  The school is ranked 16th out of 117 DC public schools.

Our campaign theme is Spread Literacy, Spread Light (#SLSL2013) because this project will fund Reading A-Z.com, a proven online literacy tool.  It will also fund three laptops in support of implementing a new blended learning literacy program to supplement their current reading curriculum for the 2013-2014 school year.

Today, I hope you will consider donating to our fundraising campaign which will help to purchase an online learning program and new computers for 144 students.  You can donate at any giving level, whether it's $5, $10, or even $15. A $25 donation sponsors a letter on each keyboard, $50 sponsors a function key and $100 sponsors the space bar on one of three laptops.

If you are unable to financially contribute, don't worry! Here are other ways to show your support:

  • Like our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SLSL2013) and comment on your favorite childhood book or other learning materials. Invite your friends and contacts too.

  • Tweet our fundraising page (spreadliteracycc.eventbrite.com) with the hashtags #SLSL2013, #literacy, #youth, #learning or #education.

  • Forward this email to friends and colleagues so they can learn about this fundraising project.

Will you join me in SUPPORTING this effort? Then visit our fundraising page and donate today - www.spreadliteracycc.eventbrite.com
