Hey - Do you know how to read? Come read with a kid in Columbia Heights!
Reading All-Stars is 826DC's volunteer reading program at Tubman Elementary, where 99% of students are from low-income families and 40% are English Language Learners. Now in its 4th school year, Reading All-Stars has helped Tubman post the 2nd largest DC-CAS reading growth of all DCPS schools, from 2008 to 2012. We're looking for volunteers right away to help keep up the momentum:
1. Can you read with a kid on a Saturday? We meet from 10am-noon each Saturday morning, and you'd be paired with a kid 1-2 grade levels behind to help them get better on targeted reading skills.
2. Do you have 4 hours per week to help coordinate and train volunteers, analyze student data, plan field trips, work with Tubman teachers to plan volunteer training workshops, etc? (Literacy or elementary teaching experience NOT required.)
To learn more about how you can help, email readingallstars@826dc.org.
