Early childhood education is garnering more attention as of late, thanks to mentions from the likes of President Obama and governors across the country, who are making financial commitments to expand state-funded pre-K in their states. The District of Columbia has long invested in pre-K -- more than 90 percent of D.C.'s four-year-olds are enrolled -- thanks, in part, to organizations like Fight For Children, which supports early education programs that serve low-income kids. In this month's Q&A, Recess blogger Amanda Klein talks to Sadie Ellner, a program manager with Fight For Children, about the importance of early childhood education, some common misconceptions, and her work in the Kenilworth-Parkside neighborhood.
