March 1: Art, Technology and Social Change
Technical Skill Focus: Digital Collage, Introduction to Adobe Photoshop Elements
In this hands-on workshop, educators will develop an understanding of how graphic tools can be used to tackle the dual challenge of encouraging self-reflection and inspiring students to think critically about broad themes of social change and justice. Using photo manipulation and illustrating technology, participants will create their own superhero and bring him or her to life through digital collage. Each superhero will be challenged to respond to a contemporary social problem using his or her unique history, strengths and weaknesses. In addition to creating their own digital collage, participants will discuss how the project might be adapted through different technologies and possibilities for classroom use with a focus on student engagement, problem solving, collaboration and technology skill building.
Lead by Fatima Elgarch, ARTWORKS Teaching Artist.
