About Center for Student Opportunity
Center for Student Opportunity (CSO)—a 501(c)(3) based in Bethesda, Maryland—is empowering first-generation college students on the path to and through college. CSO's I'm First project (www.imfirst.org) is a national campaign to celebrate first-generation college students and support the next generation of students who will be first. We partner with four-year colleges and universities across the country to help them promote and improve their efforts on behalf of first-generation college students.
The Position
As an entry-level position, the Student Programs Assistant will support the Student Support Associate and be responsible for day-to-day tasks of maintaining and building student relations, student outreach and website management. An integral member of the Student Support team, the Student Programs Assistant will play a major role in CSO's relations with outreach and support of students, as well as virtually providing effective resources for first generation students in 9th-12th grade who will be the first in their family to attend college. This role is based in the CSO office in Bethesda, Maryland.
Student Programs/Marketing Activities
- Identify effective ways to virtually provide first-generation students with resources needed during their college search and application process
- Identify and cultivate relationships with community-based organizations and high schools, providing them with support and resources for their high school student population
- Management of CSO's new website for first-generation students
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Excellent academic record
Ideal Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working in a small office environment (flexible, hardworking, independent)
- Proven ability to meet and exceed goals
- Demonstrated success cultivating relationships, thinking strategically and delivering compelling proposals to potential funders
- A highly collaborative style; positive attitude; strong work ethic; attention to detail; and unquestioned reputation for honesty and integrity
- Commitment to the organization's mission and ideals; past experience in higher education or college access a plus
- One or more years of nonprofit fundraising experience desired
Preferred Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Knowledge of Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.)
- Strong research skills
- Facility with or willingness to learn Skype, live webinars, and Google+ chat technology
Hours:
This position is part-time, 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday

$10 per hour
