Reflect, Transform, Lead: Preparing Students for College Careers, and Citizenship

 

Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM ET

You are invited to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) headquarters for a presentation and discussion in which you will hear four Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) leaders describe how their groups are redefining the student experience through effective approaches to college and career readiness, high school reform, STEM, and civic engagement—all key ED goals.

 

Presenters will include:

 

·         Brenda Dann-Messier, Assistant Secretary, Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE)

·         Robin Utz, Branch Chief, College and Career Transitions in the Division of Academic and Technical Education in OCTAE

·         Alicia Bolton, Policy Analyst, OCTAE

·         Cole Simmons, National President, Future Business Leaders of America

·         Camsie McAdams, Senior Advisor on STEM Education

·         Daria Ferdin, National Treasurer, SkillsUSA

·         Tammy Proctor, Group Leader for the Office of Early Learning

·         Brian Will, National President, Family Career and Community Leaders of America

·         Elson Nash, Team Lead for Promise Neighborhoods and Full Service Community Schools, Office of Innovation and Improvement

·         Carter Christensen, National President, DECA

 

The event will include student presentations on their CTSO projects and how they relate to ED's priorities. There will also be a moderated discussion in which students share their backgrounds and discuss how their school/CTSO is helping them prepare for college, careers and citizenship.


To RSVP, please contact Robin Utz via email at robin.utz@ed.gov by Friday, February 14. Please include your name, organization and email address in the message.  You must bring a photo ID in order to enter the Department. 

 

The Department is located at 400 Maryland Avenue, S.W., across Independence Avenue from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Our building is bordered by 4th and 6th Streets, S.W., as well as C Street and Independence Avenue. You should enter via the Visitors' Entrance on C St., East end.  There is metered parking near the building.

 

The nearest Metro station is L'Enfant Plaza. Exit at 7th Street and Maryland Avenue.
