[YEP-DC] Internship at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Campaign for Grade-Level Reading

Position Summary

This position will contribute to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s strategic communications program as part of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. The Campaign is a collaborative effort by funders, nonprofit partners, states and communities across the nation to ensure more low-income children succeed in school and graduate prepared for college, a career and active citizenship. The Communications Intern will conduct research, develop and disseminate communications tools and information on behalf of the Campaign. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer for the Campaign.

 

Responsibilities

The intern will provide support for the Campaign as a whole. These responsibilities include:

·         Assisting with current projects managed by the Chief Operating Officer. Projects may include:

o    Supporting Communications efforts, including promotion of Campaign messages via social media, newsletters and internal communication vehicles and internal as well as partner events

o    Making recommendations on the use of social media tools and channels to support the work of the Campaign and assisting with the promotion of key messages

o    Developing written communications to support the work of key Campaign initiatives including the Healthy Readers initiative focused on health determinants of education, as well as the Parent Success initiative

o    Assist with preparation for, coordination and facilitation of Campaign conferences, meetings and events

o    Developing summaries of existing and prospective Campaign partners to support the partnership strategy

o    Researching and compiling summaries for the 140 Network Communities participating in the Campaign

o    Researching, cataloguing and communicating federal funding opportunities relevant to the Campaign’s Network Communities.

·         Serve as a full member of the GLR team, participating in staff meetings and assisting with Campaign operations

Qualifications

·         Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

·         Interest in nonprofit organizations and/or Early Childhood Education

·         Self-starter with the ability to manage in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

·         Ability to solve problems creatively, pay attention to detail, and work as a contributor in a team environment

·         Strong organizational skills

·         A commitment to producing consistently high quality work

·         Excellent written communication and verbal skills

·         Knowledge of and experience using social media tools and channels

·         Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

·         Knowledge of Salesforce (recommended)

 

Tools and Equipment Used

Telephone, personal computer including word processing software, copy machine, fax machine, and ten-key calculator.

 

Physical Demands/Workplace Environment

·         Required to sit for long periods of time.

·         Infrequent light physical effort required with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

·         Work is generally performed in an office setting, but some travel may be required.

 

Compensation

This is a paid four-month internship, with the ability to extend through the summer.
