[YEP-DC] Generation Hope is recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator!

Generation Hope is a 501(c)3 organization supporting teen parents getting their college degrees in the DC metro region. Through direct sponsorship and one-on-one mentoring, we help our Scholars graduate college and create more stable futures for themselves and their families. We are currently recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator to assist us in this effort! The job description for this position is below. Thank you!

Volunteer Job Description: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Program Manager

Compensation: None

Primary Role: The Volunteer Coordinator supervises volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions within Generation Hope to:

1. Strengthen the Generation Hope Scholar Program

2. Involve a community of supporters as described in the duties outlined below

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and promote the various volunteer opportunities within the organization
  • Recruit, interview, and place applicants for volunteer work
  • Talk to staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
  • Maintain up-to-date volunteer records and volunteer position job descriptions
  • Ensure volunteers are staffed to support various needs, including Child Care Volunteers, Snack Crew, and Event Volunteers
  • Provide input and content for the Quarterly Volunteer Alert
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training
  • Assist the Program Manager with the development of volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
  • Assess volunteer feedback received through comment forms
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate
  • Work with community groups, schools, professional associations, and businesses to publicize opportunities for volunteers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers
  • Send confirmation and reminders to all volunteers related to their volunteer assignment

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage
  • Record-keeping skills
  • Organization and planning skills
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
  • Ability to work productively in a tele-work environment

Time Commitments:

  • Hours will vary depending on volunteer needs, generally will not exceed 5 hours/week (mainly tele-work) except in weeks with special events
  • Must be available for special events and training, which may occur on evenings and weekends
