Publicist, ASCD
ASCD, a leading provider of high-quality professional development resources for educators, is seeking a Publicist to focus on advancing key association initiatives that will grow audience awareness and create positive visibility, with a specific focus on promoting ASCD thought leaders, staff, authors, programs, products and services.
This role encompasses the following functions:
· Builds and cultivates relationships with media, authors and other key stakeholders. Proactively conducts media outreach, pitching, and inquiry fulfillment.
· In conjunction with stakeholders, develops, implements, and evaluates public relations, communications, and media strategies and campaigns tactics including brand/mission promotion, message development, member engagement, and media outreach.Uses metrics and reporting to measure success, and adjusts as necessary.
· Works closely with stakeholders to create and implement cohesive and compelling promotional plans for ASCD thought leaders, staff, authors, programs, products and services (e.g., at scheduled events; via broadcast, print and online media etc.).
· Creates and schedules content for official social media channels of the association, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Google+, as needed.
· Represents ASCD at external association meetings such as policy briefings, press conferences, and other similar events.
· Provides guidance to internal stakeholders. This may include coaching clients on effective communication.
· Creates content and prepares a wide variety of materials: news releases, blog posts, tweets, social media posts, and op-eds.
· Manages special projects, tasks or initiatives, such as annual conference, social media outreach, or others as assigned.
This position requires a degree in communications and a minimum of four years of demonstrated experience in a communication-focused role such as writing and reporting, media relations or public relations. Strong news-and policy focused writing skills for both print and electronic media. Knowledge of web-based technology and demonstrated use of social media tools for media tracking, research, analysis, and targeted communications is also required.
