Experienced Instructors Wanted for Part Time Youth Training Positions
Serve DC – The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism is currently recruiting instructors to serve as trainers for its Youth Emergency Preparedness program targeting 3rd & 4th graders
Background
Serve DC – The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism's mission is to transform communities through volunteerism, providing tools and resources to address unmet community needs.
Serve DC manages the District of Columbia Citizen Corps. The (DC) Citizen Corps and its attendant programs address the critical needs of volunteer engagement and program sustainability by undertaking a number of different projects to strengthen and enhance the city's ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. These programs are specifically designed to increase the number of emergency response volunteers, expand and enhance training courses, provide opportunities for volunteering, and promote a culture of preparedness in the District.
The Commander Ready program teaches students the basics of emergency preparedness and disaster response through interactive activities and team-building exercises. The program covers fires and fire safety, weather-related disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, heat emergencies, and earthquakes. Other topics include germ prevention safety, bullying, gunshot safety, and terrorism. The Commander Ready teaches students critical thinking, problem solving skills, leadership skills, and teamwork.
