Special Education Teacher (Preschool-5th Grade)
Background
Scholar Academies is a non-profit school management organization that exists to close the achievement gap for low-income students. Scholar Academies improves educational equity by:
- Operating schools that prepare every student for the path to college and for entry into the workforce
- Acting as a thought partner with organizations to advance our educational systems to positively impact every student
- Challenging the status quo and embracing innovation as a way to improve outcomes for every student
Currently, Scholar Academies operates five schools across Philadelphia, Trenton and DC. Young Scholars Charter School (grades 6-8) in Philadelphia is the highest-performing charter middle school in Philadelphia serving 250 students. Young Scholars Frederick Douglass CS (grades K-8) in Philadelphia, and DC Scholars Stanton (PS-5) in Washington DC are now in their third year of turnaround.
In August 2012, Scholar Academies added two new schools to the network. DC Scholars Public Charter School will initially serve students in Pre School through 3rd grade before eventually growing to serve students up to 8th grade. In Trenton, NJ Scholar Academies began managing Paul Robeson Charter School, a Trenton Public School District turnaround school serving neighborhood students in grades 4-8. The Scholar Academies' network's schools serve a combined 1,900 students across our three regions.
In five years, Scholar Academies plans to operate twelve schools serving more than 6,000 students in two to three regions, continuing on its aggressive growth trajectory to be one of the highest achieving school networks in the nation.
