Are you a Parent of a 9th, 10th, or 11th Grade student between the ages of (14-17 years old) and reside in Washington, DC. Well this program is just for your child.
One Step Closer: Summer Externship Program (SEP), offers District of Columbia (DC) youth ages 14-17 (grades 9th-11th) the opportunity to work with local organizations in the fields of (STEM, Hospitality, Arts, Childcare, Law, Communications, and Business) for four weeks this summer as of Monday, July 6, 2015 - Monday, August 3, 2015 and receive compensation. The apprentice will report to each designated site 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday; 9am-1pm). Saturday's will consist of workshops and community service with SEP coordinators. During the closing of the program, the apprentice will give a presentation of what they learned.
Goals of Program: Through SEP, we strive to provide young people with the opportunity to:
- Earn money and gain meaningful work experience;
- Learn and develop the skills, attitudes, and commitment necessary to succeed in today's world of work;
- Learn and develop goal setting strategies to completing high school and learn the college application process;
- Gain exposure to various exciting career industries; Interact with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment; and
- Each youth accepted into the program will have first priority toward the One Step Closer: College Tour this Fall.
