Position Summary
Scholar Academies is seeking passionate and hardworking leaders with records of exceptional student achievement and outstanding classroom culture. Candidates for leadership positions in our network should be strong instructional coaches, data driven, and have a strong belief that all students can achieve. The Founding Director of Student Support, as a member of the school leadership team, will oversee all functions of staff roles related to student support and will be responsible for the support and professional development of all Special Education staff in the building.

The Founding Director of Student Support will work in a new elementary or middle school turnaround school in Washington D.C., at a charter or district school to be named in early 2015.
Job Requirements
Coordination & Management
- Manage and support a team of special education teachers, personnel and related service providers
- Serve as a member of the school leadership team to shape the direction of the school and coordinate interdepartmental practice
- Ensure that the school is in compliance with the requirements of IDEA, section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 along with federal, state, and local laws
- Create and supervise the school's Response to Intervention programs for students who display academic and behavioral gaps
- Manage the building's special education software program, EasyIEP, and assist with federal, state, and local reporting
- Develop and oversee case management system for all students with IEPs and 504 Plans, and ensuring provisions of accommodations and testing modifications
- Coordinate the procurement of third party service providers, provide daily oversight and evaluate the effectiveness of the providers
- Support the development and implementation of special education grants
Instructional Effectiveness
- Evaluate, coach, and provide professional development to special education teachers and staff on direct instruction and service, as well as planning accommodations and modifying instruction to students with IEPs and 504 Plans
- Reflect critically upon performance and identify areas for further professional development
- Collaborate with other student support providers in the Scholar Academies network and lead school-based student support meetings
- Analyze data to drive student achievement and behavioral outcomes
- Monitor and implement programs, resources and curricula to enhance teaching and learning
Communication
- Communicate respectfully and collaborate thoughtfully with parents, guardians, and other members of the community
- Initiate and maintain timely communication with all stakeholders
- Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve personal practice and achieve overall goals and mission of the school and the network
- Master's Degree in Special Education, or a related field (School Psychology), preferred
- Three years of instructional experience in special education
- Experience leading a team of professionals towards dramatic results
- Certification in special education along with supervisory certificate or administrative certificate, preferred
- Record of achieving ambitious results with a population of diverse learners
- Unwavering belief that students with special needs can and will achieve rigorous and ambitious goals
- Demonstrated skill in building relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Strong organizational and coordination skills
- Passion for developing and implementing systems and procedures to make every minute count
- Excellent strategic thinking skills
- Ability to thrive in a goal-oriented, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
- Passion for education reform and a commitment to closing the achievement gap
