[YEP-DC] JOB OPPORTUNITY: Courageous 3rd - 5th Grade Team Teacher

Washington School for Girls (WSG) is now in its sixteenth year as an independent, privately financed school, serving an at-risk population in the Southeast quadrant of Washington, DC. WSG provides a caring and safe environment for young girls, grades 4th through 8th, who are living in an under-served urban area and are at risk of leaving school prematurely. Students receive a solid and holistic education in the Catholic educational tradition, featuring intellectual challenge, respect for diversity, and support for the spiritual, social and emotional growth of each student. WSG works with each student to identify the best high school placement and tracks her progress throughout.

Washington School for Girls includes 2 campuses and is searching for an individual who is strong and committed to the holistic development of children. Our Campus at The VIEW houses our 4th and 5th grades, while our Campus at THEARC serves grades 6th - 8th. Our students face unusual daily challenges and live in an underserved section of Washington, D.C.

WSG is looking for THREE dynamiccreativeenergetic, and culturally diverse Team Teachers that will work closely with our Master Teachers in Fall 2015! WSG is looking for an individual who is not afraid to take risks,comfortable with using technology, and wants tocollaborate with our girls. WSG is looking for a spectacular professional who is flexible, wants to engage with the families, and has high expectations of students.

Applicants should have the:

  • Ability to acquire try and true techniques with students
  • Ability to teach all subjects to include: Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies
  • Plan and prepare lessons, assignments, instructional materials
  • Arrange and participate in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences whenever indicated for the welfare of the student
  • Able to manage volunteers on a weekly basis
  • Work well in a small personal setting
  • Maintain a self-contained classroom
  • Take a team approach to teaching
  • Be creative and flexible
  • Be proactive
  • Have experience working with underperforming readers
  • Have experience developing personalized learning plans and comprehending testing data
  • Have strong classroom management skills

THIS IS A 12 MONTH POSITION

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelors Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of one year teaching experience
  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Collaborative leadership and decision making
  • Data managements tools, organizational tools, computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Google Email)
  • Committed to Catholic Education that is academically excellent
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team
  • Committed to a mentoring relationship with Master Teacher
  • Commitment to their own learning

Position is open for the 2015-2016 academic year.
