Summary
American Progress has an immediate opening for a Policy Analyst for early childhood policy and K-12 education. The analyst will work under the direction of the Vice President of Education Policy and the Director of Early Childhood Policy on policies that span early education and K-12.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct original research and synthesize extant knowledge.
- Write and edit accessible letters, columns, briefs, and papers.
- Elicit and provide feedback on written materials.
- Manage projects independently.
- Interface formally and informally with media, external groups, and policymakers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Master's degree in a social science discipline, public policy, or education.
- Three to five years of relevant, full-time work experience.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong ability to conceptualize problems.
- Proven expertise in aspects of federal or state early childhood and education policy.
- Robust understanding of local early childhood and education policy or practice.
- Knowledge of federal policymaking and budget process.
- Strong ability to manipulate and analyze data using statistical software.
- Strong ability to formulate policy recommendations.
- Ability to generate new and original ideas for solving policy problems.
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to initiate projects and balance multiple projects at once.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well on a team.
- Fluency in Spanish preferred.
- Commitment to the organization's mission and goals.
