I'm looking for teachers, school counselors and/or school administrators (essentially anyone with some experience and perspective on our local schools) to speak at a lunch I'm hosting this Saturday from 11:30am- 2:30pm. We will likely have about 12 people there and our speakers normally just sit down with us and talk about their life and experiences (i.e., you don't need to prepare anything). If you or any of your colleagues are available, we would love to hear about your experiences in our education system and then join us for lunch (our treat). Some of the subjects we may want to discuss include increasing class size, the impact of charter schools/ the DC "lottery" system for schools, budget cuts, testing, etc… Please note that we don't expect anyone to be an expert, we're really just interested in learning from folks that have significantly more exposure than we do to area schools.
The women at the lunch will mainly be members of the DC chapter of AAUW, the American Association of University Women, which is a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance. Our group will be meeting for lunch onSaturday, May 9th from 11:30am – 2:30 pm at Alfio's Restaurant in Chevy Chase Maryland (right on the border with DC). If anyone is interested in speaking with us but needs transportation I'm happy to give them a ride, also Alfio's is very close by the Friendship Heights metro station (walking distance).
Please contact me at Skyler.heimark@raymondjames.com if you have any questions or if you're able to speak with our group this weekend!
Best,
Skyler
