To:
The Legal Aid Justice Center's JustChildren Program is hiring for two new positions based out of our office in Richmond, Virginia. More information is attached and below:
Education Attorney
The Legal Aid Justice Center's JustChildren program seeks an experienced education law attorney to work with our attorneys, organizers, and partners to promote policy initiatives expanding educational opportunities for children living in poverty, to handle a caseload of primarily education cases, and to provide training and technical assistance to legal aid lawyers and other education advocates across Virginia. This position is based out of our Richmond office.
Juvenile Justice Community Organizer
The Legal Aid Justice Center's JustChildren program seeks a full-time community organizer to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. Among other things, the organizer will work to mobilize people to take action on the issue of youth justice and community-based alternatives to incarceration. The organizer will involve hundreds of new volunteers, while building a core group of 20-30 volunteer leaders. The organizer will work as part of our juvenile justice reform campaign team, working with a campaign manager to build broad grassroots support for juvenile justice reform at the state level. This position is initially funded for one year with the possibility of renewal.
The Legal Aid Justice Center is a nationally recognized, non-profit program providing free civil legal assistance from three offices throughout the state of Virginia. Our dynamic staff of more than thirty advocates pursue systemic legal advocacy for all low-income Virginians using a wide array of strategies. Through legal representation, community organization, and statewide advocacy, the Legal Aid Justice Center works both to eliminate the immediate symptoms and to address the underlying causes of poverty in Virginia. We encourage diversity, value unique voices, pursue our goals with passion, and have fun while working for the public interest.
To apply for either the Education Attorney or Juvenile Justice Organizer positions, please send the application materials described in the attached announcements to Mary Bauer at hiring@justice4all.org. The positions will be open until filled, but we will begin reviewing resumes on March 20, 2015. The Legal Aid Justice Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
