[YEP-DC] Join 50CAN and the Thomas B. Fordham Institute for the Spring Semester of Ed Policy 101

50CAN and the Thomas B. Fordham Institute are bringing back the successful 10-week online Ed Policy 101 course this spring. Over the course of the 10 weeks, students will network with a geographically and organizationally diverse group of education professionals and learn the ins-and-outs of the major education-policy issues of today from the top thinkers in our field. Those completing the course will have a deeper understanding of how education policies interact with each other to improve or hinder student outcomes and will gain a broad and driven network of peers and professors to draw on as they build their careers in the education sector. Apply to be a member of our third prestigious cohort of up-and-coming education leaders. Learn more here and below.

Education Policy 101 is an innovative online course that introduces participants to the key education policies that affect American K–12 students.

It provides a comprehensive, research-based foundation for navigating current education policy issues like:

 School choice
 Teacher quality
 Education finance
 Early childhood education
 Standards and accountability

PROFESSORS

Featured professors in this year's course include Martin West of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Tom Loveless from the Brookings Institution, Marguerite Roza of Georgetown University and Patrick Wolf of the University of Arkansas, among others. Six of our expert instructors last year were featured in Rick Hess' list of most influential Edu-Scholars of 2015.

What to expect

During the course, participants will learn the ins-and-outs of education policy at the federal and state levels, as well as brainstorm how best to tackle these issues in the future with expert professors in the field, facilitators at 50CAN and Fordham and their classmates.

EACH WEEK, PARTICIPANTS WILL:

Review selected readings (about 50 pages),

View an introductory video lecture (15-20 minutes),

Attend a one-hour virtual class led by a prominent education researcher or reformer, and

Complete a short group project showcased at the end of course.

CLASS SCHEDULE

The live webinars will run from March 27 to May 29 on Fridays from 12–1pm EST, for a total of 10 classes.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

By the time this course adjourns in May, our participants will be well versed in the big policy issues facing education leaders today and use that information and the extended networks they garner to begin forging their own action-oriented path for change.
