[YEP-DC] Job posting: District policy analyst at NCTQ

The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) is now recruiting for a Lead Analyst, District Policy Studies. Please see the job description and directions for applying below. For more information about all openings at NCTQ, see our website and visit us at the Opportunity Fair at the upcoming YEP Policy and Practice conference.

Lead Analyst, District Policy Studies

The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) has an opening for a Lead Analyst in our District Policy Studies branch, where we examine policies and practices governing the teaching profession at the school district level as well as assist local communities in bringing about needed reforms.

The primary responsibility of this position is to execute studies of specific school districts. At the invitation of local community organizations, NCTQ conducts in-depth analyses of select districts' teacher policies. These analyses lay out a reform blueprint not only for school districts and teachers unions but, importantly, also for community members who can then advocate for reforms after our studies have been released. This position will also work with the rest of the district policy team on issue-specific white papers and other projects as they arise.

This position reports to the Managing Director of District Policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and manage relationships with the local community partners, school district, and teachers union.
  • Organize and conduct site visits to study locations. This typically includes a week on-site running focus groups, conducting interviews with district and union leaders and other stakeholders, and meeting with district contacts to establish data collection requirements for each project.
  • Work with district officials to ensure the timely collection of data needed and oversee the work of the district policy analyst in data cleaning and analysis.
  • Design, implement, and analyze surveys administered to teachers and principals in the district.
  • Generate new ideas for projects/research.
  • Develop practical policy solutions in response to new research findings and challenges faced by school districts.
  • Contribute posts to NCTQ's Twitter feed (@nctq) and to the monthly newsletter, NCTQ's Teacher Quality Bulletin (TQB).
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

We seek a strong analytical and creative thinker, someone who can zero in on the essence of a problem and devise imaginative but feasible policy solutions. We require someone with superior writing skills, who has the ability to communicate using straightforward language even when the content of the communication is complex.

Candidates should have a good appreciation of the complexities of teacher policy issues. Experience teaching in a K-12 setting, working in a school district central office or working for a teachers union is preferred. Outstanding organizational and project management skills needed to oversee a district study from start to finish are required.

This position requires a strong knowledge of education policies and trends, particularly in regards to the teaching profession. We are looking for candidates with an exceptional academic background who are highly self-motivated, passionate about the need for reform and who enjoy working independently.

SALARY

NCTQ offers competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with experience.

TO APPLY

Please send your cover letter and resume, or any inquiries, to info@nctq.org. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

The National Council on Teacher Quality is an equal opportunity employer and invites and encourages qualified applicants.
