State Board of Education (State Board) was established on June 12, 2007 and consists of nine elected members and is responsible for advising the State Superintendent of Education on educational matters, including state standards; state policies, including those governing special, academic, vocational, charter and other schools; state objectives; and state regulations proposed by the Mayor or the State Superintendent of Education. The State Board has approval responsibility of many important educational issues as well. Excitingly, the State Board is seeking to expand its capacity to deliver policy recommendations for the entire District of Columbia.

If you are you interested in education policy and want to help improve the educational outcomes of children, then you may be the ideal person to join the DC State Board of Education's policy team.

We are in search of an extremely organized and passionate policy analyst. In brief, the policy analyst:
  • Participates in the development of a variety of policy analysis documents to aid in proposing legislation and making changes in existing programs. Reviews current projects, searches pertinent literature, evaluations and studies, which often contains voluminous and conflicting data; discusses issues with federal and non-federal experts and program officials; considers legislative developments; and assesses programmatic trends. Summarizes and presents findings;
  • Performs analyses using a variety of quantitative and qualitative techniques and methods; synthesizes results; and prepares comprehensive reports for use by the administration in formulating social services policy, developing regulations, and proposing changes in legislation; and
  • Conducts extensive reviews of a wide variety of statutes, codes, regulations, and other documents; resolves problems of incomplete or conflicting information, and renders findings in the form of written reports and/or oral briefings for use in formulating policy, developing legislation, or writing regulatory requirements.

Salary Range: $66,306 - $84,828
