MANAGER, VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT AND OUTREACH

Job Description

CPE is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Volunteer Recruitment and Outreach to significantly expand the size of the organization's current volunteer base. This individual will report directly to the Executive Director and manage a growing team and department that will advance the organization's growth trajectory by 40% over the next two years. S/he will work collaboratively with the Development and Communications Director and the Programs Director. S/he will be responsible for aggressively engaging new volunteers, building and cultivating corporate and community partnerships and facilitating mentor training and information sessions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategic recruitment plan utilizing ongoing research on best practices and analysis of past performance

  • Coordinate and facilitate presentations, workshops, trainings, and events including, but not limited to: mentor and volunteer recruitment presentations; new mentor orientation/trainings; volunteer orientation/trainings; ongoing mentor trainings; community events; and mentor and volunteer appreciation events

·       Manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders including corporate partners, community partners, prospective mentors/volunteers, and current mentors and volunteers
·       Oversee the processing of mentor/volunteer applications, screenings, background checks, and overall progress toward organizational mentor/volunteer needs
·       Work with the External Relations Manager to plan special events and to create volunteer recruitment materials, maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and writing style
·       Spearhead an alumni mentor recruitment and engagement initiative
·       Serve as the staff liaison to the volunteer-run Mentor Leadership Council and other volunteer-oriented committees
·       Collaborate with the School Partnership Manager on the mentor-mentee matching process
·       Develop and implement strategy for ongoing mentor support and retention
·       Create an annual volunteer recruitment budget and track all mentor/volunteer related expenses
·       Manage up to two staff members and two interns for the department
·       Collaborate with program evaluation staff to measure the impact of the organization's volunteer initiatives on students and mentors.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three to five years of volunteer management experience
  • Ability to create and recommend sustainability growth plans
  • Excellent facilitating and public speaking skills
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Passionate and creative story-telling that will engage diverse audiences
  • Ability to connect with diverse types of organizations: corporations, schools, small businesses, government, faith organizations, etc.
  • Dedication to providing educational opportunities to low-income youth, particularly first-generation-to-college minority youth
  • Knowledge of mentoring best practices
  • Event-planning experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to receive and provide feedback, implementing improvements and changes effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Salesforce experience is a plus

STUDENT-MENTOR COORDINATOR

Job Description

The Student-Mentor Coordinator (SMC) helps CPE achieve its organizational goals of student high school graduation, college enrollment and college completion by coordinating support for a caseload of student-mentor pairs.

Case Management Responsibilities

  • ·         Communicate regularly with students, mentors, parents, school faculty and community partners
  • ·         Facilitate mentor-student relationship development
  • ·         Make weekly visits to partner school sites across the DMV area
  • ·         Support and equip mentors to serve as academic, social, and emotional resources for students
  • ·         Monitor student academic and developmental progress
  • ·         Collaborate with CPE partners and stakeholders to develop academic action plans and provide social support
  • ·         Meet benchmarks for frequency of contact with students, mentors, parents and schools

Additional Responsibilities

  • ·         Facilitate workshops and trainings
  • ·         Attending and facilitating an annual overnight retreat
  • ·         Provide program data as needed for proposals and reports
  • ·         Collaborate with other staff to plan and implement CPE's monthly student workshops
  • ·         Collaborate with other staff to support CPE's fundraising initiatives
  • ·         Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • ·         Bachelor's degree
  • ·         Commitment to CPE's mission
  • ·         A minimum of 2 years experience working with urban youth and families; with proven ability to forge, maintain, and strengthen relationships
  • ·         Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • ·         Ability to manage competing priorities in an organized manner while dealing with urgencies
  • ·         Teaching or facilitation experience a plus
  • ·         Ability to work independently and with a team
  • ·         Available to work some evenings and weekends
  • ·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • ·         Spanish proficiency a plus

Salary

  • Competitive benefits package, includes matching 403(b) plan, medical and dental
  • Salary Range: $37,000-$40,000 based on experience
