[YEP-DC] Volunteer Opportunity: May Volunteer Opportunities with Chavez Schools

Hope you're enjoying the end of April showers and the blooming of May flowers :)

Attached to this email is a listing of our upcoming volunteer opportunities.  We're especially looking for volunteers to assist us with:

• Final Thesis Presentations (May 20th-22nd):  This is the culminating experience of the Public Policy curriculum at Chavez Schools in which all Seniors will present their year-long research on a public policy issue.  Volunteers serve on a panel of judges to review student work, ask questions, and offer feedback about the students research.
• 10th Grade Drug Trafficking Summit (May 29th): Our 10th graders learn about the concepts of sovereignty and power as they relate to the relationship between the US and Mexico, as well as how this relationship is tested through the drug trade along the border.  Volunteers listen to student presentations about how they think the drug trade should be resolved and determine which ideas are the most effective.
