Job Summary

City Schools is improving the accessibility of knowledge resources and the alignment of data sources, tools, processes, and decisions.  To do so, the Division of Knowledge Management  coordinates knowledge management across offices with the ultimate goal of helping the organization function optimally in service of our schools.  Under the leadership of the Achievement and Accountability Officer, the Director of City Schools Knowledge Management will direct and manage efforts to equip professionals at every level of the organization with access to the information they need to do their jobs.  The Director of Knowledge Management is responsible for overseeing the project plans, including timelines and key performance indicators, of the team charged with improving City Schools' Knowledge Management.    

Essential Functions

·         Develops, updates, and communicates strategic plans.

·         Engages stakeholders, including teachers, principals, and district office colleagues, and ensures collaboration between the Knowledge Management Team and other City Schools' departments around the effective use of data in decision-making.

  • Manages the development and implementation of an operational plan including a timeline for design and implementation, communications campaign, initial assessment plan, resource procurement strategies, and key performance indicators.
  • Rigorously prioritizes so as to focus on major objectives and high-impact strategies.
  • Briefs the Achievement and Accountability Officer on all matters related to Knowledge Management.
  • Creates and manages a budget for the area of responsibility.  Develops and monitors time and expense project budgets.  Facilitates development of project plans, work breakdown structures, and schedules required to successfully complete projects on time and within budget constraints.
  • Provides appropriate supervision, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to the Knowledge Management staff, including the development, implementation, modification (as needed) of professional growth plans.
  • Conducts and/or provides input into the performance evaluations of staff contributing to City Schools Knowledge Management.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, business, information sciences, law, organizational sciences, operations research, social sciences, policy, or related field; doctorate or other terminal degree preferred.  Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Five years of experience in systemic improvement and organizational change that includes at least three years of leadership experience in change management.
  • Experience in data analysis, program evaluation, information systems, and/or policy analysis.
  • Managerial experience with complex organizations or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Teaching or school-based leadership experience useful but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational policy, practices, and research.
  • Deep experience with knowledge management policy and practice, especially in relationship to school improvement and education reform.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and policies affecting City Schools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and practices.
  • Effective strategic planning and follow-through skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and work effectively in teams.

·         Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office and other applications necessary for efficient and effective project management.

·         Ability to work effectively in high-paced environment, with deadlines, and multiple stakeholder viewpoints.

·         Ability to analyze data and systems.
