ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Instruction and Support
Teach adult basic education, secondary, and post-secondary level classes required for a successful
transition into post-secondary education or the workforce. STEM Teachers may teach science,
technology and/or math classes. Language Arts Teachers may teach reading, writing and/or social studies.
Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific
learning standards set forth in the school's charter;
Provide ongoing assessment of individual student progress and adapt curriculum and lesson plans
according to the needs of the students.
Coordinate extracurricular activities, such as field trips or other experiential learning opportunities, to
complement in-class instruction.
Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the
same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis;
Oversee volunteer instructional staff serving as co-teachers or teaching assistants in their classes and to
those providing one-on-one or small group tutoring to their students.
Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management;
Coordinate with Student Support Services in ensuring adult learners get both the academic and social
services they need to be successful in school and in their transition to college or career. Participate in
regular meetings with the Student Support Team for this purpose.
Provide office hours on a regular basis and/or as needed to support individual student progress.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree + secondary or adult education experience required, preferably in an urban setting
Master's degree in Education or other related field and/or certification in adult education or 2 years of
Adult Education experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with standardized assessments for adults, particularly CASAS, GED, NEDP and the
Accuplacer (commonly used community college placement exam)
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Must be a self-starter and able to multi-task
Strong computer skills, including Excel
Excellent oral and written communication skills
