Afterschool Alliance: Spring 2014 Internship Programs
The Afterschool Alliance seeks self-starting team players with a strong interest in out-of-school time policy and advocacy to apply for one of TWO internship programs—the Policy, Communications & Development Internship Program and the STEM Education and Policy Internship Program. Interns will gain a first-hand understanding of the connections between research, policy, advocacy and field work in the afterschool, before-school and summer learning time space. Applications are due by Friday, Jan. 17.
Policy, Communications & Development Internship Program
General Projects & Tasks
· Assist in managing database of local, state and federal policies affecting afterschool programs.
· Attend Hill visits, coalition meetings and/or Congressional briefings and hearings.
· Assist with blogging/research on promising practices in the afterschool field and relevant policy.
· Support the management and coordination of prospect research and fundraising efforts.
· Help coordinate and execute advocacy events.
STEM Education and Policy Internship Program
General Projects & Tasks
· Represent the Afterschool Alliance at Hill visits, Congressional briefings and hearings on STEM education, coalition meetings, and/or general STEM education events.
· Draft blog posts, presentations, alerts and other communications for the afterschool field on opportunities and developments in STEM education.
· Contribute to an ongoing NSF-funded project, producing a series of issue briefs relating science education research to practice.
· Assist with expanding the Afterschool Storybook with profiles of STEM afterschool programs.
