Re: [BloomingdaleActionList] McMillan at HPRB

Hugh,

Dinner plans tomorrow night and out of town text Wed-Friday. Other than that, Im available and want to help. Where and when do u need me?

Just a bit of explanation... I originally thought that some development was the best course of action cause it was the most likely positive outcome. Walking by the site on Sunday, my heart sunk at the thought of such a beautiful, unique and historic part of our heritage being destroyed for an office comple, store and townhomes, particularly when all of those things are being built in spades while green space is rapidly disappearing.

The catacombs of McMillan are very reminiscent of the cisterns of Istanbul and unlike anything else in DC. Saving just a few is like preserving a ferris wheel after destroying the whole park. Finally, I believe we have a responsibility to hold in trust (we already own it) our historic places for future generations. Our kids shouldn't have to read about them in books... like we have to do when it comes to NY's formerly glorious Penn Station or our own former Truxton Circle.

Patrick,

The time is ripe for this advocacy work.

What's your next availability to meet and discuss?

Thank you!

Hugh
