Australian Embassy Education, Science and Technology Internship – Fall 2013
The Education, Science and Technology Branch of the Embassy of Australia in Washington is a part of the Australian Government's Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education. The objective of the branch is to increase Australia's collaboration and engagement with the United States (US) and Canada; and promote Australia as a source of high quality education, science and research.
The Education, Science and Technology Branch focuses on the following areas of work:
· Government-to-government dialogue: Australia and North America share many similar higher education and science policy challenges. The Education, Science and Technology Branch facilitates education and science policy dialogue between the Government of Australia and the Governments of the US and Canada as a means to share best practices and lessons learnt for future policy development and encourage future collaboration.
· Education, science and technology policy research and analysis: The office monitors and analyses policy and regulatory developments in the US and Canada across higher education, science and technology, reporting its findings to the Australian Government and key stakeholders.
· Promoting the quality of Australian higher education, science and research capabilities: The office engages with education and research institutions to promote Australian capabilities, encourage collaboration and increase academic and research mobility between Australia and the US.
The Education, Science and Technology Branch is currently seeking a policy intern to begin in September through November 2013 to work on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week). We will provide the intern with a stipend of $1000 per month.
Summary of Duties
The intern will assist with researching, monitoring, and reporting on US and Canadian higher education, science and technology policy; attend and report on higher education, science and technology events; and assist the policy manager with supplemental duties as requested.
Desired Skills
The successful candidate will:
• Have completed at least two years of college
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Have strong research and analytical skills
• Have the ability to work independently and in a team
• Have a personal interest in the fields of education, science policy and/or international relations.
