[YEP-DC] APIASF Seeks Director for Scholarship Program

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: DIRECTOR, APIASF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund

The Director for the APIASF Scholarship Program is responsible for overseeing and managing the organization's core scholarship program and its community college scholarship program. This senior level position is based in Washington, DC, and may require occasional travel. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

APIASF Scholarship Program, Community College Scholarship Program and the PEER Project (Partnership for Equity in Education through Research)

-Lead the development and implementation of the application and selection process for all APIASF Scholarship Programs

-Ensure seamless online application and selection process for all application cycles

-Implement strategies to assist students with application questions and troubleshooting

-Analyze, assess and improve existing scholarship program and process to ensure that it runs effectively and efficiently

-Create and implement a system for tracking communication, transcript reviews, disbursements and activities related to single-year and multi-year scholarship recipients, as well as deferred scholars

-Advise the Program Specialist, Outreach & Community Relations on desired objectives for APIASF-Specific Outreach

-Create and lead the process for selecting, verifying & notifying finalists and scholars according to donor requirements and preferences

-Manage intake process and track all scholar documents

-Execute Scholar discussion groups, 1-on-1 advising sessions and Welcome Events

APIASF Read Process and Volunteer Management

-Train, recruit and manage 400+ volunteer readers to assist with the application read and review process

-Create and implement volunteer engagement strategies to effectively motivate readers to review more than 7,000 scholarship applications within a 9 week period

-Implement strategies to enhance the reader portal ease & effectiveness for upcoming years

-Create and implement a communications plan regarding the Read process to a variety of audiences including volunteer readers, board members, staff, community organizations, and advisory council members

-Maintain relationships with community members, board members, advisory council members, institutional representatives, and volunteers

-Serve as the primary point of contact for the scholarship component of PEER

-Create culturally relevant reader training and materials

Data Analysis & Management

-Analyze longitudinal data, demographics and trends of applicants, finalists and scholars to inform organizational policies and strategic planning

-Create demographic snapshots, charts and executive summaries for the APIASF Scholarship Program

-Assess enrollment data for scholars and report graduation rates for scholarship recipients

-Provide guidance and feedback regarding the creation, implementation and management of the database

-Update database with scholar and applicant information

Management & Supervision

-Manage the Scholarship Committee, one of several board committees, to ensure consistency in the implementation and administration of the scholarship program and process, and to ensure that the scholarship program aligns with APIASF's vision and mission

-Research and create policies as it relates to the APIASF Scholarship Program

-Supervise temporary staff members

Other Responsibilities

-Work with the Development team to conceptualize and implement new strategies to increase the ability to administer and enhance the Scholarship Program inclusive of donors' needs, students' interests, and staff capacity

-Collaborate with Director of Marketing & Communications to drive communication with applicants and scholarship recipients through social media, emails and other communication venues

-Provide logistical and event support for organization programs including the Higher Education Summit and Annual Scholarship Benefit

-Undertake all other assignments directed by the President & Executive Director


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree a plus
    • At least 2-3 years of experience managing projects or programs
    • Experience working with high school or college students, particularly those of multicultural, first-generation, and/or low-income backgrounds
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Familiarity with college access programs, scholarships, or financial aid strongly preferred
    • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures and experiences, and the issues affecting these communities
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
    • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills
    • Ability to work independently and in team settings
    • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with Raiser's Edge and other database programs strongly preferred
