Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy, Washington, DC
The Assessment Specialist is responsible for leading the creation and revision of all major assessments that transform a network of four schools to an empowering focus on higher-order thinking, critical thinking, and concept-based frameworks. The Specialist will be a member of the Department of Public Policy and reports to the Director of Public Policy. The Department serves as a catalyst for a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning that empowers students to narrow the gap between the promise of America's foundational ideals and the reality of their daily lives.
Specific duties:
- Support the refinement and implementation of assessments that measure deep conceptual understandings, higher order thinking, critical thinking and disciplinary literacy
- Provide teachers with a roadmap for transforming their classrooms into intellectual centers through formative assessments and the use of qualitative and quantitative data
- Assist teachers in igniting students' intellectual curiosity by making connections between core academic principles and real-world application
- Design and lead professional development workshops, retreats and learning labs to deliver the vision that students of any age can affect social change through an empowering curriculum
- Collaborate with fellow members of the Public Policy Department on all aspects of an empowering curriculum and public policy courses
- Bring resources to the schools (e.g. speakers, public policy materials) to help better integrate public policy into the curriculum and general life of the schools
- Support tangible efforts to increase public policy culture in the schools (e.g. co-curricular clubs, conferences, etc.)
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Intellectual curiosity, love of reading, constant learning, continuous improvement
- Commitment to research-based decision making
- Strong follow-through and ability to efficiently execute complex tasks
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- Master's degree preferred
- At least three years in education experience required
- Teaching experience preferred
