Campus Information: Founded in 1856, the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) is one of the nation's top public research universities. Position Summary: The Office of University Diversity seeks a full-time Deputy Director to support the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and to provide leadership throughout the campus with respect to equity, diversity and inclusion.  The Deputy Director will work with various constituents, including faculty, staff, administrators, and students, to implement aspects of the Strategic Plan for Diversity.  S/he will serve as a key resource, consultant, and collaborator in considering policies and developing and evaluating programs and initiatives that advance the Plan. S/he will conduct special projects and research related to equity, diversity and inclusion, and support the work of the Diversity Advisory Council. S/he will stand in for, and represent, the CDO as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  A master's or doctoral degree, preferably a terminal degree in their field. An advanced degree in a discipline related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, such as Education, Psychology, Counseling, Women's Studies or Law, is desirable. At least five years of experience in developing, implementing and/or evaluating diversity programs. At least five years of experience working in higher education. Substantial knowledge and skills related to diversity challenges, opportunities, initiatives and programs in higher education. Experience in leading teams or committees in higher education. Excellent oral communication skills, including workshop/presentation and public speaking skills. Excellent written communication skills. Excellent human relations skills: effectively models engaging with diverse students, staff and faculty in an inclusive, unbiased and affirmative manner. Preferences: Strong preference given to candidates with demonstrated skills in leadership, consensus-building, and implementation of successful initiatives and programs.  Quantitative data analysis and grant-writing skills are desirable.

 

The Office of University Diversity: The Office is led by the CDO/Associate Vice President, who reports to the Senior Vice President and Provost and serves on the President's Cabinet. She is charged with managing the implementation of the University's Strategic Plan for Diversity.  She serves as the University's chief equity officer and primary spokesperson on diversity issues.  The CDO supervises the Deputy Director, a Program Coordinator, and five diversity-related units that provide academic, cultural, and social support to underrepresented students, diversity education to the campus community, and advocacy around diversity and inclusion.

 

Compensation:  Annual salary beginning at $88,000 or higher, commensurate with experience.  Excellent benefits and leave package including tuition remission. Benefits information is available at www.uhr.umd.edu.

Job Title

Part time Onsite After-School Activities Coordinator

 

Duties

The Onsite coordinator's duties shall include, but not be limited to:

* Meeting and greeting the vendors as they arrive on time to the school on their assigned date.

* Manage, distribute, and maintain rosters (checking against daily attendance at school).

* Overseeing vendor performance on a daily basis through observing instructors and student participation.

* Maintaining daily attendance records and session reports (ensuring both are entered into online portal and ready for approval by Flex Academies administrator the next day).

* Ensuring students arrive at their activities and depart based on the pre-assigned schedule.

* At the end of each day, validating that all attendance reports are submitted to the school.

* Communicating with parents regarding program questions, changes or cancellations as well as student attendance. 

 

Qualifications

* The right person will be a great communicator, very responsible, demanding of the vendors, and fun! 

* The right candidate must interact comfortably with students, parents, vendors, and front office staff.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Dedicated to the success of after school activities at your school

* Ability to work independently

* Excellent organizational skills

 

Schedule

This is a part-time job opportunity, approximately 6-8 hours a week working from the designated school.  The on- site coordinator will be expected to execute their role from 3:00-5:00 (for elementary schools) and 2:00-4:00 pm (for middle schools) every day the Academy is in session during the week.

Development Associate (Full-Time)

The Development Associate will work closely with CPE’s Deputy Director to manage, implement and expand activities relating to individual, foundation and corporate fundraising, social media, and marketing communications. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and write corporate, foundation (and government as needed) grant proposals and reports
  • Manage relationships and correspondence with a variety of donors
  • Maintain a calendar that identifies and tracks proposal deadlines, grant reporting deadlines, etc.
  • Manage donor database, run reports, and update on a regular basis
  • Develop content for CPE’s communication materials, social media sites and other reports, including the quarterly newsletter
  • Plan and coordinate fundraising events
  • Assist with hiring and managing up to two interns for the department
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality and writing style when relating organization information
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications include:

·         Bachelor’s degree required

·         Fundraising experience, including proposal writing, is a plus

·         Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills

·         Strong attention to detail is a must

·         Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects

·         Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small, fast-paced, team-oriented environment

·         Demonstrated interest in non-profit sector as evidenced by volunteer activity/previous employment

Press release from McDuffie's office- can't remember where all I have seen this notice, but thought I would send it out to you guys, as a reminder, since the first meeting is tonight. Note that not one  of these meetings is  in Bloomingdale, but I nit pick - some are close. lol . I just checked with his staff, and was told that he, or a member of his staff, is expected to be at the special BCA meeting on Saturday afternoon with DCWater. I am sure that most of the people attending these meetings will not be interested in Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park flooding issues, but if you can't go Saturday, if you want to definitely see the CM, and especially if you have another issue besides  flooding, you might want to make an effort to attend one of these meetings.

Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of: Sales processes, CRM (SalesForce.com preferred), Territory management, Software or Services based solutions, Consultative Selling Skills, Web-based presentation tools (i.e. WebEx, LiveMeeting, adobe connect, etc.)

Ability to: develop and manage a territory and sales plan to achieve required sales objectives

Skill in: identifying opportunity, moving prospects through a documented process, and effectively communicating company solutions verbally and in writing

 

Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Intelligent Software/Technology sales performer with successful Education or related marketplace experience
  • 2+ years' experience in a sales role, years as a front-runner, groundbreaker and overall sales leader a plus; a minimum 2 years of demonstrated sales success with technology offerings in a K-12 education, business to business, business to education market preferred
  • Able to communicate about company vision and solutions as well as match specific customer requirements to those visions, delivering on the promise of the vision
  • Proven experience developing customer solutions

[YEP-DC] Another Cool New Opportunity at Chavez Schools: Assessment Specialist

The Assessment Specialist is responsible for leading the creation and revision of all major assessments that transform a network of four schools to an empowering focus on higher-order thinking, critical thinking, and concept-based frameworks.

 

Primary Accountabilities:

·   Support the refinement and implementation of assessments that measure deep conceptual understandings, higher order thinking, critical thinking and disciplinary literacy

·   Provide teachers with a roadmap for transforming their classrooms into intellectual centers through formative assessments and the use of qualitative and quantitative data

·   Assist teachers in igniting students' intellectual curiosity by making connections between core academic principles and real-world application

·   Design and lead professional development workshops, retreats and learning labs to deliver the vision that students of any age can affect social change through an empowering curriculum

·   Collaborate with fellow members of the Public Policy Department on all aspects of an empowering curriculum and public policy courses

·   Bring resources to the schools (e.g. speakers, public policy materials) to help better integrate public policy into the curriculum and general life of the schools

·   Support tangible efforts to increase public policy culture in the schools (e.g. co-curricular clubs, conferences, etc.)

·   All other duties as assigned

Requisite Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·  Bachelor's degree in education or related field

·  3+ years of exp in field of education experience required; some teaching exp preferred

·  Intellectual curiosity; commitment to continuous learning and improvement

·  Commitment to research-based decision making

·  Strong follow-through and ability to efficiently execute complex tasks

Responsibilities

Curriculum and Planning

• Structure high-interest, standards-based lessons that challenge and develop students’ critical thinking skills; aligned with lesson, unit, and grade-level goals.

• Utilize strong content knowledge to effectively present material to students.

• Infuse joy and rigor in lessons to invest and excite students about their academic excellence.

• Exceptional proficiency designing and implementing standards-based lessons aligned with pacing guides and other curricular materials using established Septima Clark lesson planning tools.

 

Instructional Delivery

• Deliver well-planned, high quality instruction aligned with effective practices in boys' education.

• Plan and deliver direct instruction skill-based lessons in a whole group and small group format.

• Develop and implement high interest, skill-based learning centers.

• Provide consistent, structured and predictable classroom environments that support social/emotional development.

• Demonstrate strong management of time and instructional pacing in an extended instructional day (7:00am – 5:00pm).

 

Assessment and Data

• Regularly evaluate student progress using nationally-normed assessments, teacher-designed tests, and student-work samples.

• Create and use Excel worksheets to input and analyze classroom-level student achievement data.

• Actively analyze and use data to plan high-quality, skill-based lessons or structured academic intervention.

• Organize instruction to achieve school’s quantifiable academic benchmarks and goals.

 

Boys’ Education Practices & Character Development

• Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and highly-structured learning environment where all boys experience success.

• Explicitly develop scholars’ character through the PRIDE values (Perseverance, Responsibility, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence) and ensure that scholars exhibit the values in all interactions.

• Facilitate positive social interactions that support boys’ self-management of emotions and relationships.

• Demonstrate high degree of comfort with boys’ learning noise and activity while ensuring good order and appropriate conduct.

• Build strong, supportive relationships with boys to foster positive social-emotional development.

• Teach and support boys through explicit instruction in the social skills needed to become thoughtful and respectful citizens.

• Build a strong, boy-friendly classroom culture by implementing school-wide behavior/culture routines and procedures.

 

School Community

• Work closely with a co-teacher/Clark Fellow and other staff in a team-based environment.

• Establish and maintain strong, positive communication and relationships with families.

• Communicate daily with families about scholars’ academic and behavioral progress.

• Complete home visits as part of the school-home partnership twice a year.

• Participate in monthly Family Nights activities (6:00-8:00pm).

• Live and exemplify Septima Clark’s mission, vision, No Excuses culture, and expectations for excellence to colleagues, scholars, and families.

 

Professionalism

• Actively participate in all professional growth and development opportunities including weekly instructional coaching meetings, monthly professional development training, and external professional opportunities.

• Embrace a No Excuses philosophy and orientation toward all duties and responsibilities.

 

Qualifications

Septima Clark Public Charter School is a No Excuses school designed to eliminate the achievement gap for African American boys. This mission is accomplished through an extended school day (7:00 – 5:00pm) and an extended school year (190 days). A Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education is preferred (other degrees are considered based on teaching experience), passing scores on PRAXIS I and II Content Knowledge as required by NCLB before hire, a minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban elementary. Successful candidates must meet the Essential Skills and Qualifications identified above.
