[dcab-l] Re: [IBMA Members] "Take Me Home, Clopper Road?!"

Not only that, but I heard Bill relate one time that he wasn't living on some remote mountain paradise at the time but, rather, in a basement apartment on MacArthur Blvd in Washington.

I was a huge fan of Bill & wife (at the time) Taffy Nivert. Used to see them perform frequently as Fat City at the old Cellar Door. This was before they joined forces with Jon Carroll and Margo Chapman to form the Starland Vocal Band.

Bill & Taffy were playing at the Cellar Door the night Hurricane Agnes roared through. John Denver dropped by and sat in that night. I was there. 😀

As a matter of fact, I do speak for my iPhone.

Ironically, the song was inspired by the scenery of Montgomery County, Maryland, not West Virginia. Bill Danoff, who wrote "Country Roads" with his wife Taffy Nivert and John Denver, revealed that the inspiration for the song was a drive down Clopper Road. Clopper Road was "almost heaven" in 1971 when the song was released, but now it's the heart of gridlock.
